Wakefield District City of Sanctuary
part of a grassroots movement to build a culture of hospitality for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
What we do
Promoting and encouraging the inclusion of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the Wakefield District.
offering safety and welcome
Wakefield District City of Sanctuary offers safety and welcome to people coming to our district whose lives are in danger in their own countries.
encouraging local groups
We encourage communities, voluntary groups, faith and community organisations in the Wakefield district to welcome and assist Asylum Seekers and Refugees.
publicise positive contributions
We want to highlight, communicate and celebrate stories of positive contributions by Asylum Seekers and Refugees, as well as challenging hostility and discrimination.
wakefield a city of sanctuary
Working towards the title ‘City of Sanctuary’ being officially adopted by and on behalf of the people of our area.
Wakefield City of Sanctuary needs your help.
Each week we support asylum seekers who are here legally but have no financial support. We provide them with some food and £10-20 per week for each asylum seeker and their family, to cover food, basic toiletries and travel to compulsory Home Office appointments.
Can you help us support people in need? Here are five easy ways to help:
Give us a small amount of money each month.
A standing order helps us provide security for asylum seekers.
Do a sponsored run – Juggle, anything.
Enter our writing competition for £3 and you could win £100.
You can also help us with donations of food and clothing.
